Actually, between 2.8.x and 2.10.x the API entry points are shifted more 
than just by 1. This is because of the addition of the FUMI/DIMI (and 
more) APIs in 2.10. So it would be a bad idea to use the 2.8 library with 
a 2.10 daemon.
