Could you tell more details about hardware platform?
Based on IPMI Direct mentioning I make a guess it is xTCA, correct?

Introducing new plug-in makes sense for new hardware platform.
For example:
- IPMI Direct for xTCA,
- oa_soap/ilo2_ribcl for HP servers,
- snmp_bc for IBM Blade Server
and so on.

DIMI is an HPI instrument like Sensor, Control, Inventory, Watchdog,  
Annunciator and FUMI.
IPMI Direct provides differen Sensors, Controls, Inventories and Watchdogs.
So it makes sense to extend IPMI Direct instead of introducing new plug-in.
