You are absolutely right about that.
And I guess you are the first one who tried to think about using  
saHpiMyEntityPathGet() function. :)
Suggest to create bug ticket in OpenHPI SF tracker.
We have very limited time frame for 3.0.0 release to include this fix.
So lets target it for 3.1.0.
