I just committed the IBAT Makefile. For now, I'd like to stick with our current DAT and DAT Provider Makefiles. I've added your makefiles as patches to ours. NFS needs to be built as part of the kernel, so we need the option of building the DAT modules that way as well.

Once the code is integrated into trunk, it should follow the in kernel method. Until then, it should build outside of the tree.

I think the Makefiles in your branch should build outside the tree.  If
you want Makefiles that build inside the tree, provide those as a patch.
