Would only work partly.. try:
ssh server $PWD/rdma_lat & ( sleep 1 && $PWD/rdma_lat -s 0 or -1)
and your server process will just hang.
I know.. don't do that then (checking if size<1 may just paper over
missing checks in verbs. i don't know).
