Unless I missed something, the only problem that we're trying to solve is that SDP needs to be able to reject a connection based on private data in the REP, but wants the RDMA CM manage its QP states. The patch that I posted should allow this.
I don't see the motivation to change the general behavior of the RDMA CM beyond that. My personal take on private data is that it is application data that could be transferred over the connection, with fewer restrictions and greater reliability.
