I have just installed OpenIndiana b147 on a new (to me) system that I have just acquired.

The system is an original Sun Ultra 20 (not an m2 model)
I did upgrade the ram to 4 Gb, from the original 512Mb

plugged in a USB type 6 keyboard and a crossbow mouse.

the monitor is a Sun (rebranded) 19" LCD monitor.

.................

The installation completed with out any issues or problems.

In trying to find out more about the system, I wanted to use prtdiag. Usage of prtdiag, in any form promptly spits out this error message:

prtdiag: failed to load SMBIOS: System does not export an SMBIOS table

.................

running::

# truss prtdiag

shows a "failed to open SMBIOS:" error message

.................

A Yahoo search of the error shows a few, but not many hits. Apparently, this issue was somewhat common in the OpenSolaris build 2x and build 3x time period.

Probably the best hit I found was this ::

<http://unix.derkeiler.com/Newsgroups/comp.unix.solaris/2005-12/msg00918.html>

with a comment from Casper Dik commenting that some information can be obtained by running

smbios -B /dev/xsvc

.....................

Can my prtdiag be fixed or repaired? If this was some obscure hardware I would understand if it couldn't.

Thank you,

Jerry Kemp
