I personally, and two other IT guys that I've spoken with from different companies, have been burned by placing any trust in owncloud. In fact, I'm still subscribed to their mailing list, and at least once a day, new people write in, asking for help, because it either fails to sync files it should sync, or some data seems to be lost. My advice: Steer clear. In Microsoft, what you're looking for is called DFS.
