I do both ways, my work laptop has to be Windows on the outside, but my daily work environment is OI Hipster as seamless windows (and some headless linuxii nearby) in VirtualBox on it. I also have servers, including ones with OI Hipster and its recently added virtualbox package, that among other tasks run various VMs in VirtualBox, and their consoles can be used in GUI mode e.g. over an Xvnc session as an X11 application, or over VRDE. You can also savestate and restore in X11 vs headless mode when done consoling (a death of X11 server kills all gui apps instantly).
