[OpenIndiana-discuss] LSI HBAs / mpt_sas

Hello everbody,

we recently installed the latest OI Hipster relase on an Supermicro server 
(X10DRD-iTP Mainboard). SAS disks were attached via an Supermicro 
AOC-S3008L-L8i SAS controller (LSI 3008 OEM).

Installation went as usual. System booted up normally, everything up and 
running.

After the installation I decided to upgrade the FW of the SAS controller to the 
latest version provided by Supermicro (the sever was in stock for some time...).

After the FW upgrade, OI boots up and then throws errors regarding SAS errors 
resulting in a reboot loop.

Fresh install on the system went well, but after the installation same result: 
after booting up SAS errors, reboot loop.

Downgrading the FW was not possible so far, because Supermicro does not provide 
older versions and the Broadcom (former LSI) FW can not be installed due to 
some ID mismatch.

After that, we made test installations with Oracle Solaris 11.3 and 11.4 
without any problems.

So, there seems to be an incompatibility between the latest LSI OEM FW and the 
OI mpt-sas kernel driver...

Are there any suggestions?
