Until very recently (i.e. patches to this list a couple days ago),
performance wasn't really great.  On 2.4 kernels, on KCS and SMIC
hardware, it was in fact pretty darn bad.  That's much better now with
the new kernel thread polling mechanism (at least on a system with
some spare CPU cycles), so it becomes an interesting question, though
the limiting factor now is the speed of the BMC to respond to
commands. :-)
