It depends on what you need. You can run OpenIPMI on the payload board; newer versions should automatically detect that it is running on a payload ATCA board and not go out on the bus and scan for things. (on older versions you can ask it to not scan the bus). So you can get to the board's sensors, controls, host-swap function, etc. from the payload.
The question is whether you need the functions this interface provides. My car can go 130MPH. That doesn't mean I drive it 130MPH everywhere I go, or that I have ever driven it even close to that fast... -Corey Stephen Cheng wrote: > > hi ALL, > > I'm working on an ATCA carrier board. we have an IPMC (2 AVR MCUs) on > board. the payload which implement main function of the board is based > on freescale's MPC8541, the payload interface is UART. > > |--------------------------| > | Payload (MPC8541) | > |--------------------------| > | | | > UART Reset Power > | | | > |--------------------------| > | IPMC (AVR) | > |--------------------------| > > The ATCA spec does not define the payload interface, and leaves it > entirely to the board implementer. > > My question is, where should I utilizing openIPMI in this system? > > My point of view is openIPMI was designed to aid running at ShMC > (shelf management controller) and IPMC( or BMC), not Payload. > > but my boss insist we need to run openIPMI on MPC8541, which already > has the MontaVista Linux running. > his reason is: openIPMI is a module of MontaVista, ...... > > am I wrong? > > if I am correct, how can I persuade my boss? > > any comments will be appreciated! > > Thanks & Best Regards, > Stephen ------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
