I'm trying to find out what I need to do to get a Linux box to cleanly
shutdown in response to an IPMI command (over a network using ipmitool)

The ipmitool man page suggests that I need to use the 'power soft'
command - and says the OS needs "support for ACPI and some sort of
daemon watching for events for this soft power to work"

I tried using acpid (which I assume is the daemon mentioned?) but I
can't get it to respond to the 'power soft' command - so I assume I'm
missing something (a kernel module?) on the machines I'm trying to
shutdown ...

Does anyone know what is required for this to work?

Thanks

James Pearson
