HI, stturne, bninh, sashok and all other guys,
Please let me introduce myself at first, i am a software developer in IBM,
currently working on a project for remotely power on/off and console the
HMC node.
When i remotely rebooted a HMC node which is a system x3550 and attempted
to observe its start-up procedure by ipmitool on my management system,
i found that the HMC node hung on "BIOS EDD facility v0.13 2004-Mar-09, 1
devices found" when its kernel started up.
1.) The HMC system infomation:
cdlhmc2:~ # uname -a
Linux cdlhmc2.clusters.com 2.6.5-369-default #1 SMP Fri Jan 12 02:40:15 UTC
2007 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
cdlhmc2:~ # arch
i686
2.) Below is the configure steps on the HMC node:
(1) Setup BIOS to peform console redirection
● Serial Port : BMC NIC
● Console Redirection : Serial Port 1
(2) Modify grub.conf to support serial port
● kernel .... console=ttyS0,19200 console=tty0
(3) Modify /etc/inittab to spawn serial console
● s0:345:respawn:/sbin/agetty ttyS0 19200 vt100
3.) Run the commands on my management system:
(1) [r...@p5n09 ~]# ipmitool -I lanplus -H 192.168.0.242 -U USERID -P
PASSW0RD chassis power status
Chassis Power is on
(2) [r...@p5n09 ~]# ipmitool -I lanplus -H 192.168.0.242 -U USERID -P
PASSW0RD chassis power reset
Chassis Power Control: Reset
(3) [r...@p5n09 ~]# ipmitool -I lanplus -H 192.168.0.242 -U USERID -P
PASSW0RD sol activate

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue or if there's wrong with my
configure steps?
It is also appreciated that you can forward this mail to who can resolve
this issue.
