I have been pulling forward patches for handling support for IPMI serial
interfaces, and I think it's not really necessary any more. So unless
there is major protest, as of kernel version 4.1 I am no longer
supporting this function.

The required changes for the way it is currently implemented will never
get into kernel.org, as far as I can tell. It could be rewritten as a
line discipline type interface with the loss of panic time
functionality, but I don't think anyone is using these interfaces any
more so I'm guessing it's not worth it.
