For me the Java applet works now! With today's update from openjdk-6-jre & co. from version 6b11-2ubuntu2 to version 6b11-2ubuntu2.1 I re-tried my Java applet (see my above post #12 for details on my architecture) with http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml It takes 10 seconds or so until I can see the dancing Duke logo together with the version information BUT IT'S THERE! :) Unfortunately, I did not test the applet right before updating, thus i'm not sure if this is the reason for the bug fix.
