I can confirm the bug, RealVNC 4.1 Applet/Application crashes the X-Server when using a composing window manager (Compiz, KWin with composing effects; metacity isn't affected). I'm using the nvidia-glx-185 Driver. I have attached the Java Application, so you can test it. (You can also download it from: http://www.realvnc.com/products/free/4.1/download.html) You can start it with: java -jar VNC.jar (You need a vncserver, The easiest way to get one is: apt-get install tightvncserver vncserver)
