I don't think that's a good move. Not at all. I would agree more at not supporting Windows 8 which has a small market share (although it wouldn't still be a good move either) than not supporting Windows XP.
That will probably make me stick to Java 7 on a project I'm working on. Just look at the market share stats: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_os.asp and http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9238049/Windows_XP_decline_stalls_as_users_hold_onto_aged_OS_flout_2014_deadline 15% which is more that Mac and Linux together!
