Hi, I just commented on the ticket. If the patch can be changed so this new functionality gets implemented as OpenLayers.Geometry.LineString::simplify, then it will be easier to move this to a separate Geometry library later. When done, I'll give it a final review and make sure that it becomes part of the library.
