Hey-
Following what I think was our agreement about the default filter serialization
for the HTTP protocol needing a more general name (than
MapFishFilterSerializer), I committed a SimpleFilterSerializer script.
When we discussed this initially I suggested to write a Format instead
of introducing a new type (Serializer). Did that just make no sense to
you?

At first glance, you might think it more convenient to give the protocol
a filterFormat instead of a filterToParams method. However, I don't
think we should assume that all formats used for serializing filters
should return a "params" object. The CQL format, for example, returns a
string from write.
If anybody wants to take this farther, please do. My main concern is
getting the script protocol in. And this really has very little to do
with it.
