Are you sure it's not working- or are you just not zoomed into a visible region on your layers? Try clicking the little globe on the pan/zoom control in the upper left-hand corner of your page and see if your layers appear. You probably want to call a map.setCenter on startup to set your initial extent (see your working Google example).
