Unfortunately, I dont have control over the KML creation and they are
coming in multiple layer and qualified with the layer. I didnt realise
that was cause of issue when I posted but have since played with code to
strip it out.

Again not something I have control over easily. Could potentially create
server script to fetch kml, convert to shapefile and then back to kml in
different format but would rather read the production kml. The KML
stores a lot of data as extended data with balloonstyle formating it.
I would like to override the symbol and labelling style though. That
possible?
