I did some playing around and except for the typos in
manhMap.setVisbility(True); (which is unnecessary anyway everything
works fine once you delete the gmaps layer which seems to screw up the
projection info so that you ask for all the roads in a very small box
near the equator/ Greenwich meridian.

I can't be bothered to work out what is up with the Google maps layers
as I don't use them (but thanks for reminding me why I don't).
