Still stuck with this. One sure-fire way I've found to get the balloons/windows to freeze up, is to click on a marker, then use the zoom tool to zoom in. If you zoom back out again, the balloon is still open (usually) an refuses to close. This happens in firefox 3.6.12 in linux and on IE explorer, Windows 7. Most of the time at least.
