* CSS-customizing of controls: some controls support it to a very high degree, others almost don't, since they do massive inline-styling (images, dimensions) via Javascript. Yet there is no clear deprecation warning about those "CSS-denying" controls that are obviously kept for compatibility reasons.
* Popups: all OpenLayers popups look a bit antiquated, I'd love to see new versions. * Minifying the OpenLayers library with the python build script can take some time. I replaced jsmin.py with rjsmin.py and saw a 5x speedup ( http://opensource.perlig.de/rjsmin/). This comes in handy when you decide to build your own minified openlayers version, but forgot some classes to include and thus have to recompile frequently. * Coordinate Transformations fail silently (i.e. no transformation is performed at al) if the required proj4js definition isn't available. Some warning would be nice. regards, Franz 2011/8/5 Sveen Atle Frenvik (Geomatikk IKT) <[email protected] > > While I for most of the time enjoy working with OpenLayers, I do have a > point that bugs me: > > The fact that styling of features is complicated, and involves concepts > like Style, styleMap and just a key-value object, and can be set on both > layers and features, in many ways, makes styling features complex. in > addition does the api doc list a Style2 class, which confuses me.. > > apart from that: personally i am bugged that it took me so long time to > discover how versatile til Panel control is, but that is my own fault i > recon.. > > Good luck with your talk! > > -Atle > > > > Marc Jansen <[email protected]> wrote: > > > Hi all, > > for my talk "Common pitfalls for users of OpenLayers" [1] at this years > FOSS4G [2] I want to evaluate the parts of OpenLayers where users of the > library experience problems. > > You would help me -- and the project itself -- a lot if you could answer > in this thread and tell me what problems you had working with OpenLayers. > > Please do not hesitate to tell us what has bugged you, what was unclear > or non-intuitive.
