Hello List,i had also problems with getting GetFeuatureInfo running and the proxy problem.
Maybe someone can check my hints and update the faq section that it may be easier for new users to get it running.
------ Additions(to http://trac.osgeo.org/openlayers/wiki/FrequentlyAskedQuestions#ProxyHost:)
edit the proxy.cgi and add your host in "allowedHosts", e.g. 'YourDomain.example.com' Even if GeoServer, etc. are running on the same host, add it to proxy.cgi. In case of standard GeoServer installation you may have to add 'YourDomain.example.com:8080' (maybe localhost:8080 too ?)
make the proxy.cgi executable (like chmod 775 proxy.cgi) restart apache webserver ------ This is the way it worked for me.I found the additional hints in the last section at http://www.gistutor.com/geoserver/21-intermediate-geoserver-tutorials/38-configuring-geoserver-proxy-for-public-and-remote-data-access.html
