Yep, I'm wrong; I just tried
popup.setBackgroundColor('transparent');
and it worked as expected; I missed the enclosing quotes in testing.

That is, I'd like - in effect - the popup's background to be invisible,
while its elements are fully visible. Right now I see that the opacity
factor applies to all its elements. Confirmed?
