The projection on the map is whatever the projection of current
baselayer is. It will then request all other layers are served in this
projection. The server providing the data should be reprojecting it on
the fly. I am guessing the WMTS was your base layer. In general, 4326 is
fine for storing data on your server, but as a "projection", (Plate
Carree), it has no redeeming cartographic properties whatsoever.
