Try turning on more logging and using -d on ldapsearch.
Can you show the full command you use to start slapd? Use /usr/ucb/ps -auxwwww
Is it showing up on netstat?
Do you have other system problems? (full disks, etc?)
-d appears not to give more useful information:
# ldapsearch -x -D "uid=guest1,ou=people,dc=mscs,dc=mu,dc=edu" -W
"uid=guest2" -d 1024
Enter LDAP Password:
ldap_bind: Can't contact LDAP server (-1)
This is the full command I used to start slapd:
# /usr/ucb/ps -auxwwww |grep slapd
root 28903 0.0 0.2 6736 2660 ? S 03:36:06 0:00
/usr/local/libexec/slapd -h ldap:/// ldaps:///
It doesn't show up on netstat:
# netstat -a |grep slapd
The system looks OK. The usage of all partitions is less than 50%. Other
applications work fine.
