openldap 2.4.44 does not provide an slapd.d

Hello,
I compiled openldap 2.4.44 on scientific linux and discovered it didn't create 
a slapd.d directory.
There is however, a slapd.conf file.
Is this right?  

If so, I would need to convert the slapd.conf file to slapd.d?
