Upgrade from 2.4.x to 2.6.x

Good day OpenLDAP folks. I am looking to upgrade our current OpenLDAP to the 
latest 2.6 release from my current install of 2.4.44. I am wondering if:


1) Is it possible to have one master running 2.4.44 and another running the 
latest 2.6 replicating to each other?
2) Is replication possible between hosts that have a mixture of:
        a) slapd.conf & cn=config
        b) hdb and mdb
