display if single screen display won't go away

bzr 1648 kubuntu
Single monitor, using an override position for the display.
On startup the display window comes up. Clicking on the display and hitting
ESC does not make it go away. The only way I found to make it go away is to
double click on a service item and, after it displays, the ESC key works.
