Not read all your comments but there is a major misunderstanding here. The renderer is for runtime paging only it is not for edit time work, The song needs to be tagged and the renderer uses a theme and the screen size to format the output.
The tagging tells the renderer what to do. Optional breaks are when the page size or font size make a slide spill over. This will not always happen. Shadows and borders and fonts can also make this happen. Split is where you always want a split regardless.
