I've inserted the text from the link below, so that it is easier to comment on parts of it. See my comments inline. > There are currently 4 blank to modes in OpenLP > > * blank_screen = Blank display to black > * theme_screen = Blank to theme > * desktop_screen = Blank to desktop > * escape_item = Blanks the screen, just like blank to desktop but it > is possible to resume Live by clicking a slide in the Live > controller. > > Default hotkey for escape item is "Esc". > > So basically escape item is blank to desktop but with the ability to > resume displaying Live by clicking a slide, which I think is a great > feature. > > The question is, do we really need four blank to modes? > I think that we do need the first 3. > I’ve noticed the concept of Escape item + other modes might seem a bit > confusing for the users. > The fact that there is no visual difference in OLP UI when escape item > is pressed makes this even more confusing. I think we should map Esc to trigger desktop-blank as a replacement. I don't think we should make it standard that selecting a slide resumes live, since having blanked the display should allow the user to go through slides without fearing that slides are "suddenly" send to live. Alternatively we could make it available as a setting if there is a need for it. > I also think it would be good to re-map the default hotkeys for blank > to modes to Esc-F2 since D / T / . only make sense for the English > users and F-keys are more commonly used in other programs. We could > set D/T/. as alternative shortcuts if we wish to stick to the > tradition. > Letter-based shortcuts are always a bit tricky regarding localization... We have the same challenge regarding slidecontroller-verse-shortcuts. We currently use some of the F-keys for other things (F1=help), so we should chose carefully. > Some kind of a decision would be nice so we could focus our resources > to either fixing the bugs or re-doing the blank to concept. Since we are in a feature freeze for the 2.4 release, we currently can only do bug fixes. After 2.4 we can start looking into removing escape-item - if that is what is agreed upon.
