Yes, I see the discussion in JIRA. Well, few more words. For Apache Harmony even with authentication our moderators removed spam from wiki once per two months. I think a small barrier with registration should not be a problem for anyone who really wants to contribute, and would prevent bots from spamming.
We also get a small personal attach to wiki edits contributions, which is also good to my point of view. As for a short URL, I have no clue right now.
