This is something that we've looked into doing on the Maemo platform using the GeoClue backend. - MaemoSurveyor
Obviously there would be differences in code/arch - but it may be helpful to collaborate on user interfaces, functionality, etc. There are definitely some things to think through on how a user selects areas, or leaves audio/photo/written notes, that we could figure out together.
