Thanks for help. If the kernel is erased first, the new kernel will not boot at all either in this case (somehow) after download. It will get back u-boot screen. I have to load the kernel from SD card, then, write it to nand. This way, the new kernel works fine. Obviously, it is not convenient to flash a new kernel using SD card.
The u-boot is 1.2.0-moko9_r8_xxxxxxxxxxxxx It will be appreciated if anyone has further suggestions Best Regards, JS ----- Original Message ---- From: Gerald A <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Kevin Dean <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; [email protected] Sent: Saturday, March 8, 2008 11:25:37 PM Subject: Re: FIC phone (GTA01) kernel download question On Sun, Mar 9, 2008 at 1:51 AM, Kevin Dean <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Prior to flashing the new kernel, are you deleting the old one via either cu or screen and the "nand erase rootfs" command? > I run sudo dfu-util -a kernel -R -D uImage to flash a new kernel image. Any reason it shouldn't be "nand erase kernel" instead, that I'm missing? And I think it depends on the version of uBoot you are using -- later ones, if memory serves, do this automagically. Here is a link to the wiki page too. http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Nand_erase Thanks, Gerald ____________________________________________________________________________________ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo!
