Sounds like a good idea -- feel free to go ahead. The panels actually were not designed for user interaction, but just visibility of the current status. With the new framework "team" in place, progress on the dbus APIs and daemons will be made over the next months, so that the panel applets can be competely dumb -- only reacting to signals. The core logic will happen in the daemons and no longer in the UI. Just started to work on a new "OpenmokoFramework" page in the wiki which will be filled with more content soon.
