i have an idea about choose kernel :
how about let qi read a file like qi.conf in SD card first
partition.(this file must in first partition)

qi.conf
- ------------------------------
partition1[1]
        (\t)uImage.bin[2]
        (\t)cmdline[3]
- ------------------------------

- -if there is file name qi.conf then qi load is and analysis it
--[1] tell qi where is the kernel
--[2] tell qi the kernel name
--[3] tell qi the kernel's cmdline

- -if there is no qi.conf file direct boot from NAND

- -if there is qi.conf and the file is blank or all in the file is comment
direct boot from NAND, the qi.conf islike this:
- ------------------------------
#partition1[1]
# (\t)uImage.bin[2]
# (\t)cmdline[3]
- ------------------------------

just an idea :-)
