If we indirect through NAND we allow it to be bricked... the NAND can even be exhausted by malicous code and permanently bricked... SD Card solution even for bootloader is truly unbrickable since it can be popped and nuked in a PC. AUX type hard boot source solution seems needless since we have a backup partition already to deal with less fatal problems. | Is resume from SLEEP happy with that arrangement as well ? Qi steppingstone content is left intact after boot, it even contains SD Card driver already but we don't even need it on resume path since Linux is still sat in memory ready to go.
