Update:

Alpine 3.1.2 is working based on my testing. And the patch went
upstream in linux 3.14.30.

I also just discovered that 3.15+ are broken due xfrm gc issues.
Basically anything with ipsec will crash sooner or later. The patch to
fix it is davem's -stable queue currently:
