I actually use a filter rule to put them in a opennlp-jira folder in my
gmail account,
and also have rules to mark the jira updates I produce as unread
directly, because

Other people do similar things, so why not make it a little easier and
directly
send them to a separate mailing list. This also gives you the option to
use RSS,
without setting up mail filtering rules.
If there are no objections, it would be nice if you can pick up the
task, and get
us an opennlp-jira list.
