The FTDI module costs 160% of the 15 EUR Olimex LPC-P1343 and 280%
of the 8.49 EUR STM32VLDISCOVERY, which the Versaloon firmware can
run on. This is much if you ask me.

Of course I would recommend to buy the hardware from Simon. The
Versaloon Mini looks great and has the correct JTAG/SWD connector
for hassle free connections.
