I do not like Gerrit myself (I'd prefer Patchwork) but I have to
tolerate it to participate in OpenOCD. Regarding Git, it's a really
essential tool and learning Git will certainly pay off, sooner or
later, this DVCS is not only very useful but is also extremely
widespread.
Anyway, even just sending the patch to the mailing list would be
better than not sharing it at all, chances are that someone will pick
it up from there.

But one can use his or her existing Github account or google account
or any OpenID account for Gerrit login, then you just add your public
key in the preferences and that should be it, seemed reasonably
straightforward when I was first registering.

I have a revised source file to add further Atmel SAM M4 chips, but the
git/repo/patching mechanism seems a buit retarded. I'll happily mail the mods
to someone who can feed it in, but I seem to have spent more time trying to
submit the enhancement than it took me to create it.
