Apart from the mailing list, I think you can host a website as long as
it does not need a database. The files can be hosted in the "Releases"
in the repo. I think you can host doxygen generated documentation on
github pages without any issues, as these are all static webpages.

I could donate some hosting space to the project (with database and
php), but this would cover only website and files - to have a mailing
list I think you actually need a VPS, not a shared hosting (I may be
wrong here)...

On the other hand I was thinking about having a small VPS for my own
project, so sharing some capacity with OpenOCD is also an option.

There are multiple free services for mailing list and website hosting
(like wordpress.org), but I don't think they allow to have a custom
domain.

Github has a lot of advantages. First of all it works most of the time
and doesn't look like a dying service waiting for someone to pull the
plug - which is the case for sourceforge. It is also extremely popular,
which is quite a big advantage...

Whatever we choose, I suggest we chose anything and do it soon - SF
won't be here forever and the service is not getting any better /; When
SF finally dies, there will be no mailing list to organize efforts...
