I do not want to spoil the fun but last time there was a long and kind of ugly discussions about linking openocd (GPL license) with proprietary libraries (ftdi d2xx in that case) and the conclusion was that you can not redistribute the openocd binary you build this way to the public. https://sourceforge.net/p/openocd/mailman/openocd-devel/thread/1245813300.8477.545.camel%40localhost/ So you need to take note of this.
