Was it clearly ascertained earlier that this cannot be done via a Tcl script debug-halted (or similar - I think that there was another handler that was more relevant but I can't seem to find it in the user manual?) event handler? That would be preferable to modifying the actual OpenOCD sources if possible, in my opinion.
