Thanks that helped, it is now programming in 30 seconds, quite some
improvement! I am happy now. :-)

I did: sudo ./openocd -f target/target/lm3s811.cfg -f
target/interface/luminary-libftdi.cfg and changed the -work-area-size flag
to 0x4000 as you recommended.

Had to find out the new commands for "flash erase" and "flash write", but
there is a good help list, "flash erase_sector" and "flash write_bank" is
not a striking difference neither. :-)
