I've committed this so that testing can commence. The chances of regressions seem very slight.
The formatting/coding style is a bit quaint, but I'm going to let it slide. I think it is important to get the tested code committed as is, and then correct the formatting afterwards so we can track any regressions in svn via bisection easily.
