Start with "git diff"...

It'd be nice if we could get to the point where patches sent
to the mailing list can just be applied as-is with "git-am -s".

That would require not just providing patches that can be
applied without manual hacks (the $SUBJECT patch didn't seem
to even try) ... but also adopting better discipline about
patch comments.  (No novels.  Just "this changed; here's why.")
